Patriot Guard Riders LogoI’ve been fortunate enough to serve my country for seven years as an infantryman in the US Army.  That’s seven years worth of great memories and amazing experiences doing my part for my country.  Now working in the funeral profession I have seen, and been a part of, saying goodbye to many service men and women with the special and earned traditions of the US military.  From the flag folding and rifle volley to the echoing of taps, nothing has more of a powerful statement or effect on attendees than military honors. However, one of the more non-traditional honors that has stood out as very unique, is the procession of Patriot Guard Riders.  They are a national, non-profit group of motorcycle riders that volunteer to lead the processions of, and stand guard for, fallen service members and first responders.  With hundreds of flags in hand, standing in perfect rows lining the road or sidewalk,  this group may look opposing, when really they are simply paying respect the best way they know how.  Many are veterans themselves, or family members of service members or veterans.  They represent the strong support our country has for our fallen heroes.  If you ever get a chance to see the Patriot Guard Riders in action or have the option of them serving at a funeral for a loved one, I recommend it.  And if you ride and are interested, they are always looking for new members.  There are chapters of Patriot Guard Riders all over the country, and they are always ready to help.  For more information, you can check out their website at
